Last week, St Augustine’s proudly celebrated Neurodiversity Celebration Week — a wonderful opportunity for our school community to acknowledge and appreciate the many different ways our brains work. It was a week filled with learning, creativity and joy as our children explored how their unique strengths contribute to the richness of our school family.

Exploring Our Strengths

Throughout the week, the children learned about the diverse ways our brains process information and how these differences are strengths. Pupils created drawings and writing pieces that highlighted their individual talents, interests and personal superpowers. Each contribution reflected the message that every child brings something special to our school.

Calming Minds and Understanding Emotions

To help understand how we manage stress, the children made glitter jars, using the swirling glitter as a visual metaphor for how our minds can feel when overwhelmed — and how calming strategies help everything settle.

We also explored a range of relaxing activities, such as music, reading, drawing and quiet partner conversations, giving pupils time to discover what helps them feel calm and regulated.

Creative Brain Science

One of the highlights of the week was crafting colourful neurons from pipe cleaners and beads. This hands‑on activity helped pupils learn more about how the brain works in a fun, accessible way.

The children also learned about inspiring figures throughout history who have neurodiverse needs and celebrated their impressive achievements.
