What an unforgettable morning of sport for St Augustine’s Catholic Primary School in Darlington as two of our talented teams took to the court in the Darlington Primary Basketball Cup! From the very first whistle, both teams showed incredible skill, determination and teamwork — representing our school brilliantly throughout the entire competition.

With eight teams taking part, the standard was exceptionally high. But St Augustine’s rose to the challenge. Both of our teams won all three of their group-stage games, securing well-deserved places in the semi-finals.

A Semi-Final to Remember

Team One faced Polam Hall in what can only be described as one of the most thrilling primary basketball games we’ve ever witnessed. With less than a minute on the clock, the team were one point ahead before Polam managed to sink a basket, shifting the game in their favour.

But then came a moment straight out of a sports movie.

Our head boy, Reuben, stepped up with confidence, taking aim from the halfway line. As the clock ticked below 20 seconds, he released a stunning shot — perfectly executed — scoring two points and flipping the game back our way. The celebration that followed was pure passion and joy. Team One were through to the final!

More Drama in Semi-Final Two

Team Two then took to the court against Abbey. Another tense match saw both sides locked in a tie at full time, leading to a high-pressure shootout. Christian stepped up and, with nerves of steel, scored on his second attempt to secure their place in the all‑important final.

St Augustine’s vs St Augustine’s – A Dream Final

The final was something special: St Augustine’s vs St Augustine’s. Played in brilliant spirit, the match finished level once again, with impressive baskets from Preston and Louis. With nothing separating the teams, another shootout was needed.

In the end, Team One were crowned overall winners, with Team Two achieving a fantastic second place — an outstanding result for both teams and a moment of immense pride for our school.

One child summed up the day perfectly:
“This is the best day of my life.”

A Huge Thank You
